Once a vaccine is built, the unvaccinated win. Additionally, marked spaces such as hula hoops may be used to represent social distancing measures. Data and misinformation may represent bean bags.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Before playing, an assessment tool will be used to judge what the kids know before playing. A short class discussion should occur as well, explaining the rules and teaching about the basics of the science used in this game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Play Vaccine Builder:<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>5 bean bags per about 15 students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 zones on a field far enough apart that kids can comfortably throw bean bags across\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Either use the painted lines of a soccer pitch or cones to divide the zones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hula hoops can also be used for the Science Zone to limit the spaces the unvaccinated can occupy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1-2 pinnies for the starting virus(es)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">The Setup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/communityscienceliaison.ca\/vaccines\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Vaccine-Builder-Game-1-2.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2233\" style=\"width:583px;height:389px\" width=\"583\" height=\"389\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>A)<\/em><\/strong> As seen above, there are two zones &#8211; the Health Measures Zone (left) and the Science Zone (right). The unvaccinated kid then must run back to the safety of the health measures. The virus must try to tag people to infect everyone.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Play the game until either a vaccine is built or everyone is a virus!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once most of the bean bags are collected (ie, one can be left uncollected to prevent puppy guarding), the unvaccinated win and can then &#8220;vaccinate&#8221; everyone by tagging the infected kids.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this predator-prey adapted game, the class is split into two groups: viruses and unvaccinated.
